A Joy Filled Wedding
Bruce & Judith's Rustic Ritz Carlton Wedding
Bruce and Judith were destined to meet. So many things were the same in their lives…the Miller last name, four children each, an interest in alternative medicine, family members with the same names, Bruce likes to give foot rubs and Judith likes to receive them, their favorite color…red…and much more.
Two months before the cruise, Judith joked with a friend that they would go on a manhunt while on the cruise. However, Judith forgot about it until she got on the cruise ship and she saw Bruce across the Lido Deck. Bruce joined Judith and a mutual friend. He sat across the table. Judith moved seats so she could hear what he had to say. That night they talked and found out they had even more in common. By the end of the three-day cruise, everyone thought that they were husband and wife. But it took another two years until they were ready for that journey.
Bruce and Judith wanted their wedding to be glittery and vibrant, but have a cozy and comfortable feel. We chose the Ritz Carlton Chicago for their wedding as the ballroom was laden with crystal chandeliers but also had lots of warm wood details.
The couple wanted to shake things up for their wedding, so they hosted a cocktail hour prior to their ceremony where guests mingled, did wedding MadLibs, sipped on tasty cocktails, listened to covers by a local harpist, and got to have some quality time with the bride and groom.
It was important to Bruce and Judith that their ceremony feel like an intimate family gathering so we nixed the aisle, brought in lots of comfy sofas and armchairs and had everyone surrounding the couple as they said their vows. Instead of a processional, Bruce’s brother started singing which was the cue for everyone to move toward the chuppah where one of the most joy-filled ceremonies unfolded before the couple’s family and friends.
From the ceremony, the couple led the way to the reception where everyone passed through wrought-iron gates that had lush garlands and wood-slice chalkboards with the couple’s last names on them. The ballroom had long farm tables set up with flowing lace runners and tall centerpieces that had gorgeous blooms of red, coral, and peach.
To add some variety, we mixed in round tables with bright coral linens that had shorter centerpieces that sat on top of stacks of vintage books and wood slices. One of my favorite details of the day were the custom mini wood slices that we used as place settings. The sweetheart’s table was covered in gold sequin and had beautiful garlands were draped over the couple’s chairs. The glittering table and the bride’s killer red dress drew every eye in the room!
Some of the highlights for me were the dinner menus that doubled as the couple’s story, the custom cake topper which was an exact replica of the groom’s sprint car, all the luscious garland and wood accents, the live band that had everyone on their feet, Bruce singing his vows to his lovely bride, and last but not least, Judith’s gorgeous gown!
Bruce and Judith, it was such a delight to help you plan your wedding weekend and get to know your family. You are so blessed to be surrounded by such lovely people! I hope your wedding was everything you dreamed it would be and I wish you the best as you set sail on this new adventure together!
